With spectacular landscape, Mai Chau is equally beautiful as Sapa and it is yet to be touristy. This is not a place just to return to but an enchanting place to live in and a refuge for the soul.

Detailed program

Day 01: Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Hang Kia (L,D)
Depart from Hanoi to Hoa Binh province (120km), passing beautiful landscape of limestone peaks and tropical forest. Arriving in picturesque valley of Mai Chau around noon. Lunch in the White Thai ethnic. In the afternoon, take a short drive to Xa Linh village inhabited by H’Mong tribal people, and start trekking to Hang Kia village (1-2 hours) situated on the high altitude. Back to Thai ethnic homestay for overnight.

Day 02: Hang Kia - Cun Pheo (B,L,D)
After breakfast, start our trek on the slopes to reach Cun Pheo village (about 5-6 hours). In the jungle, we will frequently meet hill tribal people with basket on their backs seeking for precious medicinal plants. The trek will guide you through spectacular scenery and offer a chance to observe traditional lifestyle of locals. Enjoy a picnic lunch and walk through green rice paddies. Crossing a river, we will arrive in Cun Pheo village home to White Thai ethnic people. Dinner and overnight in homestay.

Day 03: Cun Pheo – Xam Khoe (B,L,D)
Be waked up by a roster sound. Start our trekking in morning fog and savor a magnificent sunrise on the highland when the sun reveals its beauty. En route drop in several White Thai ethnic villages where you can observe their traditional lifestyle and rice cultivation activities. All Thai houses are built on wooden stilts, backed by mountain and facing the fields, in front of the house there are fruits orchard, barn & fish pond. Together, they create a peacful, quaint and relaxing setting, perfect for refreshing your soul. Dinner and stay overnight in the homestay.

Day 04: Xam Khoe - Van Mai (B,L,D)
After breakfast, walking in the morning with people who commute to work in the field. You take about 5-6 hour trekking through the villages along the mountain foot toward Van Mai. The path is quite flat so it is easy to pass. Arrive at Van Mai for dinner and overnight.

Day 05: Van Mai – Van village (B,L,D)
After breakfast, it is about three hour trekking to Van village, a beautiful village populated by White Thai. Lunch in local house. In the afternoon, In the afternoon, take a short walk through the village of White Thai where you will be welcomed by the friendly local people, communicate and discover their lifestyles and especially try your hand in weaving silk with an old loom. The rest of the day, you will earn a chance to engage more into local life with a list of farming activities to choose from: land preparation, planting, harvesting, etc (of course these activities depend on the season).
After dinner, you enjoy a traditional dancing show at night and taste Ruou Can (Can wine), the local rice wine. Homestay overnight in Thai people's house on stilts.

Day 06: Van village - Hanoi (B,L)
In the morning, cycle to the Nhot Village where you can see beautiful scenery of rice fields surrounded by mountains. Stop on the way to meet locals and visit their houses. Cycle back for having lunch in the local house.
In the afternoon, drive back to Hanoi. On the way, stop to visit Thay pagoda - a renowned pagoda in Red River Delta and a place of pilgrimage for Vietnamese people. Arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon. End of services.

Walking around travelers are captivated by a landscape of verdant rice fields in the heart of the valley of Mai Chau and the picture of people working in the fields.


Tay Phuong and Thay pagoda

Located in northwest of Hanoi, Ha Tay is a region of  beautiful landscape with rice fields and green hills, these are two pagodas, a few kilometers from each other, are important places of worship and have a remarkable architecture.



The region of Mai Chau offers a trek with a many level, during a stay of five days, you will walk on average 2 to 3 hours per day or in harder trek it is 5 to 6 hours a day.



Ride a bicycle in the region of Mai Chau is another way to experience the appealing landscape.



Spend a night in Van village, in a stilt house, share a meal with your hosts will leave interesting memories. They will welcome you with friendly smiles. Van village is populated by Thai White people surrounded by gardens and rice fields.


Folk dancing

People who visit Mai Chau usually not miss a chance to enjoy folk dancing while tasting Can wine, a kind of fermented glutinous rice is drunk by straws.
